Watering Tips

Watering is important for your garden & lawn, but did you know many people over water which leads to diseases and more weeds.  So before you turn on your sprinkler or hose think about these tips before using too much water and doubling your water bill in the summer.

Spring tips - rarely any watering is required in the spring.  Watering is on Mother Nature's tab and she usually provides enough rainfall for the garden and she gives it for FREE!

Summer tips - Water early in the morning this mean less water is lost to evaporation.  Lawn only requires 2.5cm (1inch) of water a week (this includes rainfall) to maintain a healthy lawn.

Fall Tips - Back to the Spring routine, rarely any watering is required.  Watch your weather forecast.

General Tips to remember:

- 2.5 cm (1inch) of water a week.

- Over watering can cause shallow roots, more weeds, and encourage diseases & pests.  

- Use a rain gauge

- Water according to your soil type and area you live in.  Clay soil vs sandy soils.

- Irrigation systems should be programmed just before sunrise, make sure the spray isn't hitting the sidewalk or driveway.  Install a rain sensor!
