Community Gardens

City dwellers with no backyards resort to community gardens in their neighborhood.  This is a great opportunity that allows you to grow your own fruits and veggies and build friendships with your neighbors.  If you have your own community garden plot some tips to consider are:

Crop rotation - different vegetables use different nutrients in the soil and rotating the crops allows for the nutrients in the soil to maintian a balanced level.

Healthy soil - Mulching and adding compost to your soil is essential to keeping it healthy and increase productivity.

Companion planting - Plant combinations allows for biodiversity and naturally overcome pest problems.  Some plant combinations can be found at www.gardenguides.com/how-to/.../vegetables/vcomp.asp
