Hummingbirds & Butterflies

Who wouldnt love to attract these beautiful creatures into your garden.  They exist naturally over most of the populated areas.  Planting flowering plants that are their favorite food sources can easily set the stage for their visits.  Butterflies are attracted to scents and smells and Hummingbirds by visual, especially shades of red.  Some problems that you might face and are making you wonder why they are not coming to visit your beautiful flowers are:

-dogs or cats can scare away the hummingbirds.

- wet, rainy weather keep butterflies from being active

- having very few trees or shrubs that can act as hidewaways or nesting sites can decrease your changes for hummingbirds

- nearby uses of chemical insecticides may kill butterfly larvae and reduce food sources for hummingbirds as well

- and finally, your neighbors garden might be MORE attractive than yours
