Design Vancouver 2007

This year's DV Interior Design & Urban Living Expo May 4-6, 2007 brought the best local and international, design led firms together for a show based on the exploration of "The Stories Behind Design". I was able to tell my developing story with Outside Contemporary Garden Design as I was invited to participate in the Designers On The Block Section of the show. Our space was designed by Peter Chen of Casika Modern who created 2 wheel structures giving us each a pie shaped wedge within the widely spaced spokes to set up our booths for the May show.

I was really glad that the cool booth structure was provided when it came time for move in day on the Thursday before the show. The Canada Place Conference Hall was a virtual hive of activity with construction, painting and assembling which continued to within minutes of opening time on Friday. I set up my printed banner, planted pots and desk with help from my good friend Kelly. She was recruited for her strong sense of design style and presented a formidable challenge to the decision making process that I am used to doing on my own. We worked everything out to create a great booth set up that used the Tree Fern in my planters to tie in with my fiddlehead logo that was displayed on my banner that proclaimed "Extend Your Life Outside".

Brent Comber was inspired by the serious windstorms in the winter of 2006 and created a nest of windblown debris on display outside of the exhibition hall and inside the hall created an installation of his famous alder cube seats with fabulous hollowed out log lanterns hung low above the series of cubes.

The outdoor event of the show featured Smallworks Studio And Laneway Housing who exhibited one of their "humane approaches to urban densification" at the entrance to Canada Place. It was great to see the cozy, warm feeling wood construction nestled at the foot of all the steel and glass of the city.
