Locally harvested fruit can come in exotic forms
Locally harvested fruit can come in exotic forms for us lucky Vancouverites. I came home today from the Cottonwood Community Garden with a bag full of Kiwis and Persimmons that had been grown onsite. The Japanese Persimmons look like beautiful orange lanterns and reveal a rich, sweet flavour when bitten.
I thought I had seen the best of locally produced exotic fruit when I passed a Banana Palm on Union Street that was fruiting several hands of bananas. I admit they were tiny and very likely inedible, but what a testament to our changing climate when we can get fruit setting on Bananas grown outside!
