Walked around VanDusen gardens today seeking some inspiration for 'winter interest' plants. The stem colour of the Cornus, especially 'Midwinter Fire' appeared to be aflame with their orange and red stems displayed against a dark green backdrop of holly. Some of the Witch hazel had finished already but the darker colour varieties like 'Jelena' were still flowering strong and scenting the air with their intensely sweet smell.
